The Cannabis Market in Las Vegas

The Cannabis Market in Las Vegas

By A’Esha “The Great” Goins

The Las Vegas Cannabis market seems to be a mystery no one knows how to solve. I can assure you, it is not a mystery. There is no simple response to any one question, but I promise I will do my best to debunk the myths I’ve heard and answer a few of the frequently asked questions.

How do I get a job? The simple answer to this question is; You get a job in Cannabis the same way you do anywhere else, apply. My suggestion is to get an Indeed account and put Cannabis as your search.

Do I need special credentials to get a job in the Cannabis Industry? Yes, you do. The governing body is The Department of Taxation and they require for you to have an Agent card to work in Cannabis.

How do I get Cannabis education? There are a few classes in the city that will give you some basic information about Cannabis (wecan702, Budtender Fight Club, Norml Las Vegas). None of them can guarantee you will land a job after you’ve attended. However, I know these classes will prepare you for your interview and sometimes that is all we need to have the confidence to succeed.

How do I get a license? Ah, the million-dollar question. I usually charge for this information. The simple answer is, buy one from someone. There are still non-operating and provisional licenses available. Of course, you will need to know how to find one of these licenses but that doesn’t mean it’s an impossible task. The key is, if you have one of these licensees it will qualify you to apply for another license when The Department of Taxation opens for new licenses.

How many licenses are there? Hmm, let me see. I think there are 4 on paper but 5 really. Cultivation (grow), Production (anything produced from flower), Testing labs, Dispensary, and the 5th is Distribution.

Do you get extra points on the application for being African American? Yes! The state of Nevada has a point system of grading the applications.

These are just a few of the questions I am asked when I am out and about. I am sure you have your own. Tell you what I will do. Email Aeshathegreat@gmail.com and I will try to answer them here on GoUrbanVegas Magazine. Follow me at blackabis.com Facebook, Twitter & Instagram @1blackabis T
